Ash K Holm is committed to making this website welcoming and usable for everyone, including people who use assistive technologies such as screen readers, keyboard navigation, or screen magnification. Accessibility is part of how we think about good design, not an afterthought.
This is a visually rich site with background video, motion, and editorial layouts. We work to make sure that richness never becomes a barrier, and we treat accessibility as ongoing work that improves as the site evolves.
Our target
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. These guidelines are the widely recognized standard for making web content more accessible to people with a broad range of disabilities. We use them as our benchmark and measure our work against them.
Measures we take
- Semantic, structured HTML: we use meaningful headings, landmarks, and page structure so the content makes sense when read aloud or navigated non-visually.
- Keyboard navigation: you can move through links, buttons, menus, and forms using a keyboard alone, and we work to keep focus states visible so you always know where you are.
- Reduced-motion support: if your device asks for reduced motion, we honor it. Animations, the moving row of magazine covers, film clips, and scroll effects stop automatically. The homepage's background video is the one exception. That setting does not stop it, so the "Motion" button described next is what pauses it.
- A motion pause control: on any page that runs the background video, the moving row of magazine covers, or another of the site's moving backdrops, a fixed "Motion" button (lower corner of the screen) pauses them with one tap, and remembers your choice. The waitlist page carries no looping motion (its brief entrance plays once and stops on its own), so it has no Motion button.
- Text alternatives: meaningful images carry descriptive alt text, and purely decorative visuals are hidden from assistive technology so they don't add noise.
- Attention to color contrast: we review text and interface colors, including our warm neutral palette, Bone White through Dark Chocolate, to keep them readable.
- Labeled, usable forms: form fields have real, associated labels and clear instructions, so contact and booking forms are easier to complete.
Known limitations
We want to be honest about where we're still improving. At this time, you may encounter the following:
- Some motion and video effects are central to the site's editorial feel. While we honor reduced-motion settings and aim to provide controls, a few animated elements may still feel busy for some visitors.
- A small number of decorative or third-party elements (for example, embedded media or gallery components) may not yet fully meet our contrast or labeling goals.
- Some older content or imagery may still be missing ideal text descriptions as we work through the full site.
We're actively working to close these gaps, and this list will change as we make progress.
